NORTH OKANAGAN COMMUNITY RADIO SOCIETY

The North Okanagan Community Radio Society has the mandate to own and operate an FM stereo radio station with studios located in Vernon. In accordance with CRTC regulations, this community radio station will complement rather than compete with existing publicly-owned or commercial stations, offering a wider choice in music and programming that will reflect the interests of the communities served. Those communities are: Enderby/Grindrod, Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Falkland, Vernon, Coldstream, Lavington, Lumby (Cherryville), Oyama and Winfield, with a combined population of over 73,000.

The Society intends to provide a means by which various cultural, ethnic, First Nations, French language, third language and special interest groups can deliver group-specific and diversified radio programming for the North Okanagan Community Radio. It can also provide full-time emergency public service information. Other key initiatives will be to encourage local talent, provide opportunities for learning and to create employment in the North Okanagan.

Membership in the North Okanagan Community Radio Society is open to any person who is interested in any aspect of the operation of a not-for-profit community radio broadcasting station supporting the purposes of the society. Many of the station’s listeners may become members and volunteers - the heart of the station’s operation will be its volunteers. The business community can also participate through yearly sponsorships and/or specific program support. If you are interested in becoming a member and volunteering for this community radio station project, please email mmasella@telus.net
